Surinam cherry, also known as Pitanga, is a small tropical fruit with a distinct ribbed, pumpkin-like shape. The fruits turn from green to bright red or deep purple when ripe.
The flesh is soft, juicy, and aromatic, with a sweet to mildly tangy flavor. It is eaten fresh and also used in jams, juices, syrups, and desserts.
