Alphonso mango is one of the most famous and premium mango varieties, often called the “King of Mangoes.” The fruits are medium-sized, oval to slightly oblong, with smooth golden-yellow skin and sometimes a light saffron blush when ripe.
The pulp is deep yellow to orange, very soft, fiberless, and extremely aromatic, with a rich, sweet flavor and pleasant acidity. Alphonso mango is highly valued for fresh consumption, as well as for making pulp, juice, milkshakes, ice creams, jams, and desserts.
The tree is a medium to large evergreen, suitable for tropical and subtropical climates. Fruits usually ripen during April–May in India and are especially renowned for their superior taste, fragrance, and export quality.
