Ixora coccinea is a popular evergreen flowering shrub widely grown in tropical regions of India. The plant is known for its dense clusters of small, tubular flowers that resemble steamed idlis, which is why it is commonly called Idly Poo in Tamil. Flowers are usually red, but varieties are available in orange, pink, yellow, and white. The plant has glossy, dark green leaves and blooms almost throughout the year under warm conditions. Ixora is commonly used for hedges, garden borders, and ornamental landscaping. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil and grows best in full sunlight to partial shade.
