Egg Fruit, commonly called Canistel, is a tropical evergreen fruit tree. The fruit gets its name from its egg-yolk–like texture when ripe. The flesh is yellow to orange, sweet, and slightly musky in flavor. The tree bears oval to round fruits with a smooth skin that turns yellow when mature.
Egg fruit is highly nutritious and rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, carbohydrates, and minerals. It is often eaten fresh or used in milkshakes, ice creams, desserts, and bakery items. The plant grows well in warm climates with well-drained soil and moderate watering.
